Things to See and Do in Kentucky

Mammoth Cave

Kentucky only has one National Park and that is Mammoth Cave. It is so beautiful and a great way to show the kids the natural beauty of Kentucky.

Distillery Tours

Bourbon drinkers are in nirvana in Kentucky with the sheer amount of distillery tours that are offered throughout the state. Follow along on the infamous Bourbon Trail and learn where 95% of the world’s bourbon is created. Head over the famous Maker’s Mark in Loretto and dip your very our bourbon bottle into the red wax. You might just be able to add your initials too before the wax dries!

Kentucky Derby

Once in your life you should make it a point to see the Kentucky Derby in person. Every May over 165,000 horse enthusiasts make there way to see this famous horse race. When visiting Kentucky in any other month, head over to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. You can measure your stride against the giant horse Man o’ War or bring roses to Funny Cide. This Kentucky Derby winner is the only one that is easy to visit at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Kentucky Fried Chicken

This national phenomenon with chicken was really birthed in Kentucky! Check out the Harland Sanders Café and Museum in Corbin to see where Colonel Sanders had his first KFC. His friend chicken with its 11 herb and spices is a must visit for anyone interested in pop culture.

Fort Knox

Visit Fort Knox and wave as you drive by where 5,000 tons of gold are stored. They don’t allow visitors and are finicky about taking pictures at the gate. If you are quick though, you might be able to squeeze in a quick selfie before getting booted from the depository.

Louisville Slugger

For all the baseball fans out there, it would be a shame to visit Kentucky and not go the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. You can get your name engraved on a bat and take a self-guided tour of the museum.

West Kentucky BBQ Tour

Start out in in Owensboro at Moonlite and then eat your way over to Starnes in Paduch. As you drive around the western Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky, be prepared to stop about every 20 miles for some insanely delicious Kentucky BBQ!
