One of the first places we visited when we got down to Florida was Gold Rush BBQ in Venice Florida. It was advertised on our RV park handouts and everyone was talking about it. When we were in Florida in August we wanted to try it but never got around to it so, this time, we made it our first stop before time seemed to pass us by… again!

It was one of the restaurants open on Christmas Eve, and since my family has a tradition to go out to eat on Christmas Eve we made reservations and headed out. Even with the holiday and how busy they were the service was pretty good …. except when the male server called me ‘honey’ and then my mom….. yeah not cool. But otherwise we didn’t wait as long as we thought we would go for the food, they kept our drinks full, and that’s a task with 9 of us!

They have some weekly specials to check out that would be worth the trip alone! Hubby is excited about the all you can eat ribs!

The decor was all ‘woodsy’ and all gold mining themed. It is very eclectic to me.

I got the BBQ smoked chicken, BBQ beans, garlic mashed red potatoes and of course, cornbread. The chicken was cooked great but the seasoning kind of bland. Overall it was pretty good. The food is served on tin plates ‘miner style’.

Hubby, of course, got the Ribs. Did you expect anything different? For his sides, he got fries, mac and cheese and cornbread. He said the food was pretty good.

The kids food came out on a tin plate with a side and cornbread as well, and I’m sure you can tell my daughter hated it right 😉

Overall our experience wasn’t anything spectacular, but the food was decent. I would suggest going on one of the specials nights for the most bang for your buck.
