What a crazy month!! The beginning of Septemeber found us in Ohio STILL! But we had our car back. As I write this, I am thinking of everything that has happened since Ohio, and I am in shock!! We had breakfast with great grandpa and said our goodbyes to everyone and headed out! Check out our RV Living!
RV Living – September 2016 Update
Our first stop was in New York to overnight and see our good friend Liz from Western New Yorker and her family again. The kids had a blast playing together, and she showed us her stomping grounds, from the ‘ugly Lucy’ statue, but the new Lucy statue was out for repair. Then we took a drive down the New York Amish Trail! She also showed us the lady in glass (rumor has it she died on her wedding day, so sad!) and a few of the Lucy artworks in town (since Jamestown is Lucille Ball’s hometown.) Last time we were in town we got to visit Lucille Ball’s grave too.
From Western New York, we headed on to Bainbridge NY for the Fulltime Families Rally (FtF). This was a weekend full of amazing people that travel like we do. Instead of being asked things like ‘how do you travel with 6 kids’, ‘are you guys ok,’ ‘what about school work,’ we got asked where we were heading next, where we just came from, and what kind of curriculum we are using. It was a nice change! There was a big lawn at the RV park that the kids played on from the sun up to sun down! Even in the mud after it rained!

The activities included things like bobbing for donuts, good ole campfire hot dog roast, RV parade of homes (we got some great ideas!), a cardboard boat race, and a dance at the end of the weekend. My 3-year-old made friends with another girl who she still talks about today, and we hope to meet up with again. The two of them danced all night together and had the most fun of anyone there!! We met some other great friends this year too!
This is also where I was introduced to LulaRoe, and I might have become a little addicted….. They also had a kids sale where kids sold everything from old toys, books, and artwork to get a little pocket cash. We were able to score the best deal on an American Girl Felicity Doll, and we got it for only $50!! This is my 3-year-old’s birthday gift for next month (October!) We originally said she couldn’t get one like her sister until she was 5 but since we got such a good deal we gave in a year early! Plus she was taking such good care of the Dora doll she has!
The few days after the rally we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY with a friend we met at the rally. They have 7 kids, and it was great to be around another large family! The Baseball Hall of Fame had some great info and even a treasure hunt game for the kids to earn baseball cards! Then we drove around Cooperstown is a picturesque city if only it weren’t in New York we might settle down here!
From there we headed to Hershey PA. We spent two days at the RV show taking in not only the RVs but the vendors and people who want to work with RVers! We saw all kinds of RVs. from the cute little retro RVs, to a killer Class As that had a surprising way of hiding the bunk bed. We also saw an RV with a triple bunk!!
Being back in our old stomping ground, we got to go back to our old church and even grabbed my favorite Hershey Kiss hot chocolate! YUM! We also visited the Hershey Story Museum, one of the few things we still wanted to do in the area. We even got to do a liquid chocolate from around the world.
The next day I grabbed a Groupon for a corn maze at the Oregon Dairy on Amish Country! They were able to pet a baby cow, and we walked almost 2 miles hitting all the point in the maze! In doing all the checkpoints, the kids earned some free ice cream! YUM!
From Hershey, we headed south! We overnighted in Virginia and then headed to Ashville NC. We only spent one day in Asheville, and our main goal was to see the Biltmore Mansion. While it was by far the most expensive attraction, we have been too yet it was worth it!
From Asheville, we headed to Knoxville, and we visited the Knoxville Zoo for our youngest daughters birthday. She was fascinated by the elephants!! We got to see baby monkey too that the kids loved watching.
After the zoo, we headed north to Rocky Top and Checked out the Fraterville Coal Miners Memorial. The explosion happened on May 19, 1902, and killed 214 people, 184 are buried at the memorial because they were the only ones who were able to be identified, and the others are thought to be undocumented/unknown immigrants. This was the largest coal mine explosion in the state and one of the worst in the country.

Next, we headed over to Norris Dam State Park to take in the dam and the museum. We saw the grist mill there and got pictures! The one of me and hubbies was taken by our 7 years old!! For dinner, we ate at McCloud Resturant at the top of the mountain. The views are amazing! (it’s reservation only! Then we decorated for my daughter’s party the next day!
That wraps up our RV Living for the month of September! We are heading to TX and will be there for the rest of the year.
