From the time I was a little girl, I felt the futuristic vibe of this form of transportation between parks. The smooth glide across the tracks…always a fun time before and after the parks!Visited August 2022Traveled with familyWritten July 21, 2023
- london057Dublin, Ohio695 contributionsThis The Best Monorail 🚝 in The World 🌍First of all this is the best Monorail 🚝 in the world 🌎. Second when you take from the Transportation and Ticket 🎫 Center to the Magic Kingdom it takes you right through the Disney Contemporary Resort . Third it also takes you pass both the Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts . Lastly the sneery from the Monorail 🚝 is some my favorite 🤩 in the Whole U.S.A. .Visited March 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 26, 2023
- WildermereBeach+Myrtle Beach, South Carolina534 contributionsThe magical rideWhat a nostalgic fun ride around the seven seas lagoon to the magic kingdom. First stop was entrance at the ticket and transportation center. Then you move onto the Polynesian, next off to the Grand Floridian, The magic Kingdom, And contemporary on a loop. We were all wearing Disney Transportation shirts so we were given a little extra magic and allowed to sit in the eye for photos. What a truly neat experience. We had a wonderful time and the cast members were all so friendly and complimented us on our shirtsVisited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 19, 2023
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota3,477 contributionsNot Just a Means of Transportation but a Fun Ride and its FreeThe WDW Monorail is not just a means of transportation but a ride in itself and it's free. It circles between the Magic Kingdom and The Ticket and Transportation Center and includes stops at The Contemporary, The Polynesian, and The Grand Floridian. You can also change to a different monorail at the TTC and travel over to Epcot. Riding through The Contemporary is thrilling and circling around Future World at Epcot is beautiful. If you're riding at a slower time of the day, with a bit of luck you can snag a seat in the very front alongside the monorail driver providing some very special views out the front windows. However, the monorail is also an incredible perk if you are staying at one of the above resorts as it is a quick and convenient way to get to the Magic Kingdom (although if you are staying at The Contemporary, it is actually quicker to just walk to the entrance of the park and deal with an easier security check too).Visited March 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 20, 2024

Monorails are really slow. The safety procedures are over the top. Monorail comes slowly into the station and then the cast member has to individually open ever gate to let passengers on and then close the gates by hand after the monorail is boarded. Monorails come every 10 minutes or later which is only 6 per hour. The monorails just frequent enough especially at peak times.

Because of covid you're not allowed to stand up and ride the monorail. My whole family was the only group in the car but I was expected to sit in a plastic cubicle because of the super scary covid. Anywhere else in the state and nobody would even care if I was wearing a mask but at Disney they tell you where and when to sit. Unbelievable. The guy apologized after he realized how absurd he was being but I still spent the entire leisurely trip on the resort monorail angry about how micromanaged my incredibly expensive vacation had become.

We have just returned from our 7th trip to Disney World but this trip has been by far the most dissappointing trip. It has always been expensive but now WOW.
Food sizes are smaller, you have to wait in line longer due to the 'Lighting lane' taking preference, rude unprofessional cast members that don't stay in character, average fireworks and a security system that doesn't make any sense as you get stopped at one station only to be let through the next 🤷🏻‍♀️
We still love Disney World but the parks have got alot worse over the last 5 or 6 years. Maybe now the CEO has been replaced they may return to what they were good at, making money and making memories and not what they do now which is just make money!

Easy way to get to Magic Kingdom if staying at Polynesian, Grand Floridian or Contemporary resorts or take to transportation center and switch to Epcot bound monorail. It can get crowded especially early morning and late evening. Watch out for unsupervised children, their parents distracted. Good way to view much of the 40 miles of WDW.

While we were there the only monorail open was the Magic Kingdom one........the Epcot one was closed.
I do like riding the monorail but have always noticed a smell.......the spouse thinks it is a disinfectant......I don't know, but it has been there every time I have ridden the monorail.
I don't think it is the quickest way to get around, but it is a relaxing way to get from place to place.

The best way to get around the parks. Much quicker than the bus. At the end of the day, it gets you back to your hotel ( if you're staying at the Polynesian, Grand Floridian or Contemporary) or the transportation center very quick when you are very tired. We asked if we could go the very front car and they let us. Got to see first hand around the track!

The disney monorail is a wonderful way to get around the Walt Disney world resort area. It takes you to 3 premium hotels, the magic kingdom and epcot. Better to ride the monorail instead if the bus. The ride to epcot even does a quick drive through inside the park, and the ariel view is fun.

If you stay in a Magic Kingdom resort the monorail is great for getting to the Magic Kingdom or the Ticket and Transportation Center. It’s just a atop away from the Grand Floridian, it moves very quickly. There are not very many seats so be prepared to stand. The doors are very fast so be careful. You can get to Epcot by changing lines.

We are coming down next week to Orlando and want to ride the monorail to MAgic Kingdom. We are staying at bluegreenvacations hotel. Does it cost to ride the monorail and where would we catch it?

You can get on at Contemporary resort hotel, Polinesian resort hotel. Ticket and transportation center. and I believe the Dolphin Resort Hotel. Hint: If it's not very busy and you ask the Transportation Cast-member at the station you may get to ride up front with the driver. The view is best from there and it is a lot of fun. Have done it a few times.

Does the monorail have a timetable?
We are staying off property and will be getting an Uber to the ticket and transportation centre to get the monorail to Magic Kingdom. We want to be there as the park opens and want to plan it right.

No schedule...they just run continuously on the loop...usually about every ten to fifteen minutes.

Bem!

Hi everyone
can anyone clarify what time the monorail starts in the morning, I have us booked in as a surprise for the early entry magic, so need to be at gates by 7.40am, I'm not staying onsite so will have to park and make our way from there? any advice, guidance would be appreciated

The starting time depends on whether you were staying on property or not. We were just there and on property. We were able to take the monorail before those that were pulling into the parking lot. I think we jumped on the monorail at 8 o’clock but I believe it was running prior to that as well.

Last two times I rode the Monorail the AC was broken and the monorail stopped randomly with no explanation from the driver creating a suffocating situation in the cabin for the crowded passages. Is that still going on?

The monorail I rode on was working well , as far as the AC was concerned and delivered us to the magic kingdom without incident . But it did look look worn and somewhat old..

can you ride the ferry to magic kingdom without a magic kingdom ticket?

You can ride the ferry but can not enter the park without a ticket. You could take the ferry to the monorail and then monorail to EPCOT or other monorail destinations, but you always need a ticket to enter any parks.

What time does the monorail begin operating? We are staying at the Grand Floridian and we have an early morning dining reservation for 8:20am at the Crystal Palace but Magic Kingdom doesn't open until 9:00am on this day.
Thanks!

You can easily find daily schedule and service interruptions directly on the Disney World Monorail page. Under Guest Services section of the main website. But Typically they start running around 8am until 2 hours post closing time of the parks.
Though, what always came in handy during the several days there was, the Disney World App available through Apple/google. I would advise you download and use it. You can easily see ride wait times, operation/show hours and more. All at your own pace in the parks, making it easy to schedule activities the night before.
Hope this helps and have a great vacation!

Do we have to pay or have a park ticket to ride the monorail?
wrl53
Cincinnati, OH121 contributions
No. All forms of Disney transportation are free. At one time you had to show a park ticket or room key. That went away many years ago. Enjoy the busses, teams, boats, and monorail free.
